Energy transition is one of the biggest challenges we face today. Since its inception, our Institute has supported the electrification of the country and looked after Poland’s energy security. <\/p>

We have opened a new chapter in our 80\u2011year history \u2013 on February, 6 at the \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 Institute of Electrical Engineering, a cooperation agreement was signed between the \u0141ukasiewicz Research Network and Orlen Synthos Green Energy \u2013 the company responsible for the development and construction of small modular reactors (SMRs) in Poland. In addition to representatives of the management boards, directors of the Network and OSGE, the ceremony was also attended by: the Minister of Science and Higher Education, dr in\u017c. Marcin Kulasek, Undersecretaries of State and representatives of the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of State Assets, as well as representatives of energy sector companies. The guests were welcomed by dr in\u017c. Marcin Parchomiuk, who presented the main principles of the cooperation. <\/p>

The scope of the signed agreement is very broad. It includes, among other things, the establishment of a training centre for future personnel working on SMRs, the implementation of research and development projects, the testing and certification of nuclear power plant components and educational activities. <\/p>

– This approach allows us to benefit from the potential of all 22 institutes of the \u0141ukasiewicz Research Network,” <\/em>\u2013 emphasized President Hubert Cichocki in his summary. “We can not only train the future workforce and develop innovation, but also strengthen the country’s energy security based on the knowledge of the best scientists and engineers. The goal is to develop a modern nuclear power industry in Poland, not only in the area of SMRs.” <\/em><\/p>

Cooperation between the Network and OSGE is a viable foundation for the further development of nuclear power in Poland. For our Institute, this means new challenges, but also opportunities to develop competences and an increased role in the national energy transition. \u0141ukasiewicz \u2013 Institute of Electrical Engineering is being considered as the location for the SMR model and for training and educational activities. <\/p>

– “We need to make use of the existing infrastructure to carry out an effective energy transition. That is why I am glad that we can offer our business partner not only the expertise of our scientists and engineers, but also a ready-made \u0141ukasiewicz – IEL site for such a project,” <\/em> added President Cichocki in his summary.<\/p>
