It is with deep regret that we inform you that Prof. Dr.-Ing. Henryk Tunia – an employee of the Institute, the undisputed father of Polish power electronics – died on 5 April 2023 at the age of 98.
He obtained his doctoral degree in 1960 at the Warsaw University of Technology.
Long-time Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, honorary doctorate of the University of Zielona Góra, Kielce University of Technology and Bialystok University of Technology.
He has published more than a dozen textbooks and monographs and several hundred scientific articles and conference papers.
Organiser of many international conferences but also many seminars and symposia.
He was appointed to the Scientific Councils of various units (the Automotive Institute in W-wa, the Institute of Physics of the Warsaw University of Technology, the Rzeszów and Białystok Universities of Technology, the Electrotechnical Institute in W-wa Międzylesie, where he was Chairman of the Scientific Council from 1992.
In these roles, he initiated cooperation between the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Electrical Engineering and the country’s technical universities.
The Professor also championed the interests of our Institute in central scientific institutions such as the Committee for Scientific Research and the Committee on Electrical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
