We are pleased to announce that on 20 December 2022, Mr Mateusz Łuba, Specialist in GB Hydrogen Storage Technology has defended his dissertation at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Faculty of Geoengineering.
The dissertation, entitled “The process of alkaline water electrolysis for the production of ultra-pure hydrogen and oxygen gases for PEM fuel cell applications” was written under the supervision of prof. dr hab. inż. Bogusław Pierożyński and dr hab. inż. Piotr Sołowiej, professor at UWM
The reviewers were dr hab. inż. Iwona Flis-Kabulska, professor at UKSW, dr hab. inż. Hubert Józef Latała, professor at URK and dr hab. inż. Juliusz Orlikowski, professor at PG
The dissertation was written entirely in English and focused on the development of innovative, catalytic and relatively low-cost and durable electrode materials for use in alkaline water electrolysis. The objective of the work was to improve the catalytic efficiency of the base materials (nickel foam) to produce ultra-pure hydrogen and oxygen more efficiently. The electrode materials thus obtained were then used to construct a laboratory electrolyser with a power output above 500 W, which was part of the overall hydrogen generation system. The research resulted in materials with improved electrochemical parameters that determine electrolyser operation and produced gases of a purity suitable for use in a PEM-type fuel cell.
