The exchange of experience between government, the scientific community, industry, railway operators and rolling stock manufacturers and funding bodies on the development and implementation of alternative propulsion systems in transport vehicles and the promotion of environmentally friendly propulsion systems in rail vehicles is the main objective of the HYDROGEN4RAIL – FUTURE OF TRANSPORT conference. The event also addressed the topics of fuel extraction from heavy industry and RES.
The event, which is a response to the premises of the “Polish Hydrogen Strategy to 2030 with an Outlook to 2040”, the National Reconstruction Plan and the principals flowing from the idea of the European Green Deal, was organised by the Polish Chamber of Railways.
The conference took place on 19-21 June, and Łukasiewicz – IEL was represented by Marcin Parchomiuk and Grzegorz Stawicki, who presented, among other things, the project “Sustainable and environmentally-friendly railway systems” (Rail4EARTH), which is being implemented at our Institute.
Hydrogen has the potential to become a fundamental element of the green transition. Its versatility and eco-friendliness make it applicable to a wide range of economic sectors, helping to reduce global CO₂ emissions and achieve sustainable development goals. However, for this to be possible, significant investment in the development of hydrogen technologies, infrastructure and appropriate regulations to support their implementation are required.
