In the structure of the Center we distinguish:
- Power Instrumentation and Systems Research Group – (GSE)
- Electrical Equipment Testing Laboratory (LUE)
- Calibration Laboratory (LBW)
- Laboratory of Electrical Power Apparatus Testing (LAE)
Power Instrumentation and Systems Research Group
The Research Centre’s area of activity includes conducting projects and R&D work in the field of energy:
- testing and design of switchgear and distribution gear;
- numerical analyses of electromagnetic fields and temperature distributions of equipment and equipment;
- modular construction;
- systems for monitoring, data collection and transmission;
- energy efficiency;
- optimisation of producer and national RES systems;
- testing of equipment for security and safety of energy systems;
The staff have extensive knowledge and experience in conducting research related to the above-mentioned topics. Employees have participated in EU projects, NCBiR funding, and internal projects of both a developmental and implementation nature. Active participation in a number of industry and business meetings, scientific conferences and technology development events related to the development of energy systems keeps the state of the art up to date. The GSE Research Group is active in establishing broader cooperation with enterprises and other institutes of the Łukasiewicz Research Network and scientific entities in the area of joint R&D projects and the development of product and technological solutions with a high degree of readiness allowing rapid implementation in the economy, in the field of energy systems. The institute’s experts are also authors of a number of analyses, patents or studies.
The Centre includes the Power Systems Research Laboratory, which performs tests on LV and MV surge arresters and voltage limiters. The laboratory also carries out R&D work in this area.
List of major projects carried out by Research Centre staff:
- “New research areas at Elektometal Energetyka S.A.”;
- “Construction of integrated systems to support and optimise the operation and safety of MV switchgear based on control and protection automation”
- Development of an ultra-fast earthing switch design”;
- „Development of a new generation of switches for medium-voltage electricity distribution.”
- “eVAN Universal electric delivery vehicle cat. N1 with hydrogen fuel cell and modular multifunctional load compartment”;
- “Europe’s Rail Partnership research and development ecosystem”;
- “Łukasiewicz Competence Centre Modular Construction – Project no. 080/2/06″.
Electrical Equipment Testing Laboratory
The laboratory tests electrical and photometric equipment and performs measurements in the fields of spectroradiometry, energy efficiency of light sources and lighting equipment and lighting parameters. It carries out tests on office, computer and general-purpose equipment, as well as light sources and other low-voltage electrical equipment and appliances. The Electrical Equipment Testing Laboratory has the equipment to carry out tests and measurements on electrical equipment and systems with regard to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
Calibration Laboratory
The laboratory performs calibration of measuring instruments in the field of electrical metrology (voltmeters, ammeters, multimeters, resistance meters, calibrators, high-voltage instruments) and photometric metrology (lux meters, lamp flux and luminosity standards).
Laboratory of Electrical Power Apparatus Testing
The laboratory has 60 years of experience in type and design testing of power, medium and high voltage AC equipment, switchgear and distribution apparatus up to 1000 V AC and up to 1500 V DC, and DC traction apparatus, fuses and switchgear up to 3000 V.
