National projects

The project “Inverter of photovoltaic batteries in RES installations using GaN technology” (ZET_GANINV) is supported by a targeted grant from the President of the Lukasiewicz Center.

Total value of the project: 603 750 PLN

Funding: 483 000 PLN

The project concerns the development of a high-efficiency inverter (DC/AC) working with PV batteries. The project concerns the development of a high-efficiency inverter (DC/AC) working with PV batteries. The inverter will be based on gallium nitride-based switching elements. The device will be functionally equivalent to the well-known hybrid inverters on the market. These are devices that enable both, the transmission of electricity from a PV battery to the grid (on-grid operation) and the operation of the energy storage (off-grid operation) when disconnected from the public grid. The resulting device will be tested for compliance with existing EMC standards. The use of new elements (fast switching GaN) is expected to enable a reduction in weight and size while maintaining acceptable conversion efficiency.

The following converter parameters are assumed:

– input voltage 200 V to 500 V,

– output voltage 230 V/3 × 400 V, 50 Hz,

– efficiency above 96%,

– possible operation: on grid and off grid

– non-isolated system.

Functionality and output parameters will be referenced to the Sunny Boy Storage hybrid inverter.
